Long Time, No... Blog?

Yes, it's been a long time. I don't have many readers so I guess it's not too big of a deal, but still... I feel bad.
So here's an update.
We're halfway through the semester and I've been sick three times, dropped a class (not really worth noting, but there it is), and am on the verge of yet another breakdown. This semester (excuse my language) sucks balls. I hate it. I don't like my classes, with the except of Foods 1, I don't like MOST of my instructors, and I HATE the fact that I have FIVE group projects... five... in four different classes.
As of right now, I want to shoot someone, but I also really don't think that going to jail would make this semester better so I'll refrain from doing so.
Anyway, to make matters worse, my Facebook account got deactivated because my mom decided not to come to me to fix something; something that I literally could have fixed in under five minutes. Now, however, with Facebook's shitty response time, it's taking two weeks (almost). TWO WEEKS. I use Facebook to keep in touch with the newer girls in the sorority whose numbers I don't yet have. I also use it for school groups, likes those in the FIVE group projects I have. Grr. Thanks, really.
Sorry. I hate to vent, but I really don't see why she couldn't have simply said "fix this" to me when I saw her a day later. Or at least I assume it was a day later. She didn't tell me what happened. I hate to figure it out for myself.
Meh. Oh well. I'll live. On the bright side, we have just over a month until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part One comes out in theaters!!! Speaking of...
I was at the theater over the weekend and before the film, there was an extremely exciting trailer for the aforementioned film. So, of course, being the avid fan that I am, I and some of the people I was with decided to ask when tickets go on sale. Perfectly normal, right? Apparently not. Here is the conversation:
Friend 1: Hey, we were wondering when tickets for Harry Potter go on sale.
Worker: Tickets for movies don't usually go on sale until a day or two before. Wednesday or Thursday, but since this one opens Thursday, it'll be Tuesday or Wednesday.
Friend 2: Don't they go on sale really early?
Worker: When it's a big film like Twilight, yeah.
All 5 of us: Sorry? Twilight is bigger than Harry Potter?
Worker: Yeah, bigger films like Twilight will go on sale a month or so beforehand.

Now at this point, most of us were walking away, still going "but it's HARRY POTTER" with a pause after the first name and even the last for emphasis. "Harry F****** Potter". We kept yelling things like this in the car on the way back, still floored that ANYONE (with the exception of Twi-Hards) could EVER think that Twilight was bigger or better than Harry Potter. It's just unfathomable to us all. I really feel that the theater dropped the ball when they hired this dude because I'm pretty sure he was working during the last HP premiere I went to there (number 6) so he obviously knows how it all works with HP. But seriously? Just the sheer... stupidity, if that's the right word, astounds me.
Well, that's all. Thought you'd appreciate that little story. Talk to ya later.
Stay random.

Never Again

Does this look anything like the post from about a week ago? You know... the celebrity hairstyles? Of course not. Naturally. This is why I don't trust anyone to cut my hair except Julie from back home.

I said shoulder-length, layers, and shaping. I got... chin-length, all the same and I only got bangs because I insisted on them. This dumbass from Regis Hair Salon at the Northwest Arkansas Mall didn't listen to a single word I said and I was (and still am) pissed off. Yes it's hair, yes it will grow, but it's WAY too short. I can't even CURL it now. Oh! I'm SO angry!

How difficult is it, really? To listen to someone and do what they say? That's why you go to school, people. Ug. My review of that salon? Not even 1/2 a star. No, I didn't tip and usually I'm not that rude, but I was not happy with the cut and even after two days of considering it, I'm still not happy. There's nothing they can do. It's too short to fix. I just don't see why it was so difficult.

Had to vent about that. Sorry. Next post will be more cheerful, I promise.

Penny For Your Thoughts

Looking back at previous posts, I see one comment on one post and that is my own as an addition... an afterthought, if you will. Is my blog boring? Probably. It's about things which most people may find mundane, but they mean something to me. So here is another meaningful tidbit from my life.

Tonight I went out with the girls for the first Mexican Movie Madness of the school year. In case you don't know, this is an event mostly for my sorority sisters where we go to a cheap (but filling and delicious) Mexican place near campus and then head over to the AMC theater down the road which has movies for $4 every Monday-Thursday. It's a fun, cheap way to hang out and have a good time outside the sorority house.

In continuing, we saw the movie Eat Pray Love with Julia Roberts, who happens to be one of my favorite actresses. I love her smile and laughter because there is always so much joy to be found in the sight and sound of it that I can't help but do the same. This movie is about finding yourself; moving on from the mundane and finding a balance that can help you to be happier with life in general. This is something I need and have needed for years now.

As a college student, I'm an oddball. I have never changed my major; I've had a plan since I was 13 about what I wanted to do; and I have never veered off course from that plan. Not once. I'm not saying I don't like the plan and am too afraid to admit it, but I just know it's not what I'd rather be doing.

To give you some background, I'm a senior Hospitality major down in Fayetteville, AR. I plan on attending culinary school soon after graduation and opening a bakery specializing in custom cakes somewhere down the road. That's the plan, anyway.

Obviously, the last sentence alludes to an alternative wish. What is that, you may ask. My hobbies are singing and writing stories of the fantasy and science-fiction genres. I'm attempting to get published, but so far it is not going well. No bites on the line, at least. I'm one of those people that goes along, seemingly content with her lot in life, but really I'm screaming on the inside for someone to listen. I want support in my dreams, but I don't get it from those that I should be getting it from. I want a little less stress in my life, but there's a slim chance of that every happening. Yes, it's all "I want, I want, I want". This movie is actually making me admit all of this stuff to the internet. Once it's out there, it'll stay there and that's absolutely fine with me.

Recently, I studied abroad. I made it to Scotland, England, Ireland, France, and Italy and yet I feel like I wasted my time. I should have traveled by myself if no one else would go. I should have gone to Germany and Spain and Greece like I wanted to, regardless of whether or not I was alone. But I didn't go alone. I went to London by myself for 4 1/2 days and was too frightened to do anything of that caliber again. Blegh, I shouldn't be writing all this to strangers.

But the thing is that I want to go back. I want to go back so badly that it actually hurts. There's this burning inside of me to be free and to live where I want to live and not where my family lives or where a specific school is. Yes, I love Fayetteville, but I loved Edinburgh and Rome and Venice and Florence so much more.

When I was watching the part of the movie where Roberts' character is in Rome, I nearly wanted to cry. The views were breathtaking in the film, just as they are in real life and I'll post some photos later on to show you. They are pictures that I took myself and have not been photo shopped. They are gorgeous.

I'm a worldlier person, but I want more. I caught the Europe bug or the travel bug. Call it what you will, but no matter what you call it, there is no cure and there never will be. I yearn for adventure and I'm not finding that here and it's killing me slowly. So what am I going to do about it? Nothing. Yet. I'll graduate and go to culinary school and save up my money. And when I have enough, I'll go back to Europe. And I'll stay there. That is where my heart is.

I hope this post was not too depressing. I needed to get my feelings out there. As a short review for the movie, it was much better than I anticipated, but it was entirely too long. Well, until next time... Stay random!

P.S. Here are the pictures I promised.

Possible Hairstyles...

Oh My Gravy...

So, being sick the third week of school... it sucks. I'm stuck doing research for my Hospitality Law class, catching up on video lessons in my Food and Wine Pairing class, looking for time to run to Wal Mart for things like Sudafed, and getting everything from the external hard drive back onto my newly de-virusified computer.

On the bright side, I'm just over two weeks closer to winter break. I'm also thinking of quitting my job, or at least postponing it until after football season, even though game days are the best time to work... when it comes to making money at least. I just don't want to miss any more of the games senior year and I'm already unable to go to the Little Rock games as a student. Suggestions?

Another change in my life... I'm cutting my hair again. I know, I'm breaking the three-year cycle I had going, but I think it's long enough now that I can chop it off for charity and still have some left. I'm going to do something like what my sister has. It's basically at her shoulders, angled toward the front and layered, shaped at the front of her face too. I will try to post a picture of it as an example somewhere on here... We'll see how that goes.

Anyway, that should be sometime in the next few weeks... when I have time, which right now is in short supply.

Two of my friends are studying abroad right now and I'm super jealous. I want to go back so badly it almost hurts. I really did leave my heart overseas. If anyone knows a cure for that (that doesn't involve spending tons of money to travel back there), I'd be happy to try something.

For now, Randomites, that is all. Until next time... STAY RANDOM!

Deep in my heart...

This is a post devoted to Alpha Delta Pi and especially the ladies of the Delta Delta chapter. I try not to get mushy on blogs and things of that nature, but I wanted to say how proud I am of how well my sisters did during Formal Recruitment last week. We got some amazing new girls (known as Alphas) and they even did something for US, the members, the other day. Some Alphas got together and did what's called "chalking the walk", which means they gathered up some sidewalk chalk and wrote all over the campus sidewalk saying things like "I love ADPi", "Alphas love Deltas", etc.

Side note: Our 'pledges' are referred to as Alphas and our members are Deltas. Alums are Pis. Alpha means beginning, Delta means change and Pi means forever, which is how long you'll be a Pi member of Alpha Delta Pi.

Anyway, we really did have an awesome recruitment and while my voice is still not completely back to normal and my right knee is numb, I still have a blast. Thank you ladies for making my last recruitment memorable and fun.

Pi Love and Loyally,
A sister

OH MY GOSH!!!!

Just a short post this time. I'm in a sorority and we're going through the process of practicing for Fall Recruitment. Contrary to what you may have heard, this whole process is kind of a blast and I can't wait for Recruitment to actually begin, but I would like to inform you of my stupid patellor tendinitis. It hurts and it's getting worse, but I am practicing just like everyone else. I am proud of this fact because I know not everyone is working as hard as they should be. We're tired, we're stressed, but I know come Monday, we're going to be PUMPED!!!! Can't wait for our new sisters! That is all.
